We are looking for someone with solid quality or product experience in the paper manufacturing industry.
POSITION
Summary:
Plan, direct, and coordinate all Product Development activities at the mill. Lead the Quality Control efforts at the mill through direct supervision of the Quality Systems Engineer and the Quality Control Supervisors. Provide technical support in the areas of process and product quality measurement and control, process engineering, and customer service.
ESSENTIAL
Responsibilities:
Practice and manage adherence to safe work practices and good housekeeping. Follow up and correction unsafe acts and conditions.
Develop new products or improve current products to address customer needs in agreement with company strategic objectives.
Lead the planning, execution and reporting of paper machine and OMC trials.
Work closely with Research to support the development of new products and enhancements to existing products.
Work with suppliers to identify improved and/or less costly raw materials.
Establish and maintain quality standards for raw materials and products which will assure a uniform level of product quality consistent with corporate standards and market requirements.
Communicate progress on all product development activities through trial reports. Owner of the trial reporting system.
Through the Quality Control Supervisors, establish and maintain quality control systems which production can utilize for product quality control that will ensure optimum product uniformity while meeting product quality standards.
Through the Quality Control Supervisors, oversee all grade specifications for the mill.
Through the Quality Systems Engineer, provide data for grade costing.
Provide leadership and direction to improve and maintain quality systems
Provide strategic direction for product development.
Make customer calls with sales representatives or independently as required to evaluate customer needs.
Make presentations to customers as requested to explain grade line and mill capabilities.
Develop individual and direct report goals and objectives. Establish related performance standards; provide performance evaluations and counseling as appropriate.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in pulp and paper science, engineering, chemistry or related field.
Proven leadership with 7 to 10 years of experience in quality control, process engineering, product development or related technical areas of paper production including two years of supervisory experience.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Strong analytical problem solving skills; a solid background in statistical analysis is a plus
Ability to inspire and guide others toward identifying and achieving vision and goals
