Summary:
Assist in the care of patients by performing portions of the patient exam and a variety of preliminary tests according to the physician orders and nature of the patient visit.
Principle Duties and
Responsibilities:
Assist physician with patientsEscort patients to and from exam areas, may be required to assist patients with walking, by pushing wheelchairs, lifting and transferringComplete and accurately document testing, patient's health history and medicationsComplete lens prescriptions, medication forms and patient instruction formsScreen and document visual acuity findings, glaucoma testing and various other ocular testingProvide patient information concerning their eye carePerform refractions, to determine patients' glasses prescriptionsCommunicate with physicians to ensure patient satisfactionOther duties as assignedWork Relationship and Scope:
The Ophthalmic Assistant works closely with physicians, patients, and other medical floor staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High School GraduateDemonstrates knowledge of proper, safe, efficient usage of office equipment, computers, and software.
Ability to work in a fast-paced medical facility while adhering to HIPAA compliance regulationsStrong aptitude with computer software and typing skillsAbility to develop good working relationships with physicians and staffMust obtain Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification within two-years of entry into the position Understanding of medical terminology and basic anatomy of the eyeKnowledge of examination equipment and instrumentation, operation, and maintenanceAbility to convey a positive attitude and be able to work well independentlyPrevious experience in a medical office desirableWork Conditions:

Eye Clinic of Wisconsin has six locations; while staff will be assigned to a home location; travel to satellites is a requirement of the position.
Hours of work will be dependent on the needs of the Clinic.
Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Occasional lifting (30 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
